INDIAN ARMY’S TAWANG BRIGADE COMMEMORATES 150-YEAR OF VANDE MATARAM

The Vande Mataram commemorative celebrations, organised by the Tawang Brigade at the historic Tawang War Memorial, culminated successfully on 26 January 2026, marking 150 years of the composition of the iconic national song. Conducted from 15th January to 26th January 2026, the event stood as a powerful tribute to India’s freedom struggle, cultural heritage and enduring spirit of patriotism.

Throughout the celebrations, the War Memorial reverberated with national pride as the Military Marching Band rendered stirring martial tunes, reflecting the discipline, valour and rich traditions of the Indian Armed Forces.

A major highlight of the celebrations was the unique fusion performances by the Military Band in collaboration with the Monpa Institute of Performing Arts (MIPA), where military music blended seamlessly with local cultural rhythms, creating an evocative symphony that captivated audiences.

The cultural presentations by MIPA showcased the vibrant traditions and heritage of the region, underscoring the harmony between national and local identities. This fusion symbolised unity in diversity and reinforced the spirit of Military–Civil cooperation, a cornerstone of nation building in remote and strategically important border regions.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from military personnel, civil dignitaries, representatives of the local administration, students, youth, residents and tourists. The presence of civil dignitaries alongside the Armed Forces highlighted the strong bond between the Army and the people, reflecting the Indian Army’s enduring role not only as the guardian of the Nation’s frontiers but also as a key contributor to nation building, social integration and cultural preservation.
The successful culmination of the celebrations left a lasting impression on all attendees, reaffirming the relevance of Vande Mataram as a timeless source of inspiration and unity. Through music, culture and collective participation, the Indian Army once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening national values while fostering social and cultural integration in the border region.
