Peerless Hospital Guwahati performs revision joint replacement surgery on 43-year-old woman under ESIC scheme

Doctors at Peerless Hospital Guwahati successfully performed a revision joint replacement surgery recently on a 43-year-old woman who had developed implant failure following a previously operated bilateral total hip arthroplasty.

The patient had been experiencing severe discomfort and difficulty in mobility due to complications related to the earlier implant. After clinical evaluation, doctors recommended revision surgery to correct the implant failure and restore functional stability.

The procedure was carried out under the ESIC scheme by orthopaedic specialist Dr Rituraj Neog, MBBS, MS (Orthopaedics), Fellow in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy, and Fellow in Ilizarov and Limb Reconstruction Surgery. The surgery was completed without complications.

According to hospital officials, the patient showed significant improvement following the procedure and was able to regain stability within three days. She is expected to gradually return to her routine daily activities over the next few weeks with continued rehabilitation and follow-up care.

Speaking about the case, Dr Rituraj Neog said, “Revision joint replacement surgeries are more complex than primary procedures and require careful planning. With appropriate surgical techniques and post-operative care, patients can regain mobility and return to normal functional activity.”

Doctors noted that timely intervention in cases of implant failure is important to prevent further complications and to improve long-term outcomes. Doctors said such procedures require specialised expertise and careful post-operative management to ensure optimal recovery and long-term implant stability.

Commenting on the hospital’s broader patient care approach, Dr Gautam Kumar Das, CEO of Peerless Hospital Guwahati, said, “Comprehensive patient care does not end with surgery. Alongside advanced surgical treatment, supportive care, including pain management and rehabilitation, plays an important role in helping patients recover safely and regain their quality of life. Our focus remains on ensuring continuity of care across all stages of treatment and recovery.”

Peerless Hospital Guwahati also provides comprehensive geriatric care services designed to address the unique medical and functional needs of elderly patients. The programme focuses on age-related health conditions, chronic disease management, mobility support, cognitive health, and rehabilitation, ensuring holistic care alongside ongoing medical treatment. With an emphasis on preventive care, timely intervention, and personalised treatment plans, the geriatric services aim to enhance independence and overall quality of life for senior citizens.

The hospital emphasises that geriatric care goes beyond routine treatment, offering integrated support that promotes dignity, emotional well-being, and long-term health management for elderly patients navigating the complexities of ageing.
