In a significant political development, senior Assam Congress leader and Member of Parliament Pradyut Bordoloi has resigned from the Indian National Congress, sending ripples across the state’s political landscape.
Bordoloi announced his exit on March 17, 2026, in a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing “overwhelming sadness” while citing personal and political reasons like internal disagreements.
Sources indicate no official confirmation of his next move, but speculation points strongly to joining the BJP, which could boost their presence in Upper Assam.
He was elected Lok Sabha member from Nagaon in 2019 and 2024 and also four-term member of the Assam Legislative Assembly representing Margherita from 1998 to 2016, and a minister in the Government of Assam between 2001 and 2015.
