Sikkim rallies in support of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam bill

A large number of women from across Sikkim gathered today to support the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a bill currently under discussion in the Indian Parliament that proposes 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

The rally was organized by the group All Naris of Sikkim as a mark of support for the bill and to express gratitude towards the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for introducing this initiative. Participants also acknowledged the support of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, who has consistently backed the women’s reservation movement.

Women from different sections of society, including political leaders, government officials, students, entrepreneurs, and homemakers, took part in the rally. The march was led by former MLA Krishna Kumari Rai and began at Deorali Truck Stand, continuing up to Paljor Stadium. Participants carried placards and raised slogans in favour of the bill, showing unity beyond political differences.

The demand for reservation for women in legislative bodies has been a long-standing issue in India. The proposed law is seen as a major step towards increasing women’s participation in politics and decision-making. The rally in Sikkim reflected strong public support and highlighted the collective voice of women in the state.

The event not only celebrated a possible historic reform but also sent a message of unity and empowerment, as women from all backgrounds came together for a common cause.
