“From Silver Screen to Secretariat”: Vijay Takes Oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Sunday took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a grand ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

The historic event marked the end of decades-long dominance of the DMK-AIADMK political rivalry, with Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), forming the government with support from alliance partners.

Born as Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay in Chennai, Vijay studied at Loyola College before leaving academics to pursue a career in cinema. He entered the Tamil film industry as a child actor under the guidance of his father, filmmaker S. A. Chandrasekhar, and later emerged as one of South India’s biggest superstars, popularly known as “Thalapathy.”

The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of several national leaders and film personalities. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attended the ceremony along with Vijay’s parents S. A. Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar. Actress Trisha Krishnan and several cinema personalities were also seen at the event.

With Vijay now leading the government, Tamil Nadu politics has entered a new chapter where cinema charisma and political ambition have once again come together in Dravidian politics.

In Assembly Election 2026 result the TVK won 108 seats and main opposition DMK 59  and ADMK 47, Congress 5, PMK 2, IUML 2, CPI 2 , BJP 1,  DMDK 1 and AMMKA 1.
