Eastern Railway’s Month-Long ‘Swachhata’ Surge Sweeps Through Stations

In a massive push toward a cleaner and greener travel experience, Eastern Railway is currently observing a dedicated Swachhata Campaign running from April 15th to May 14th, 2026. This month-long mission, driven by the vision of Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat, has seen a wave of cleanliness activities across all divisions and departments. The entire campaign is being executed under the dynamic leadership of Shri Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway. From Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to frontline staff, every wing of the railway family has joined hands to ensure that station premises, colonies, and tracks remain spotless.

The period between May 6th and May 9th saw high-energy participation, particularly from the Eastern Railway Bharat Scouts & Guides, who have emerged as the “Cleanliness Warriors” of this mission. On May 6th, the Naihati Group organized a vibrant rally at Naihati Station and Railway Colony. To make the message memorable for the younger generation, popular mascots Mickey Mouse and Chhota Bheem joined the Scouts and Guides Band Team.

Simultaneously, the 1st Sealdah Group carried out successful awareness drives at Sealdah Station, while the Barrackpore Group promoted the mantra of “Clean Railway, Green Railway” through interactive sessions with commuters. These groups highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in keeping public spaces hygienic, receiving widespread appreciation from the public. Throughout these dates, intensive cleaning of tracks, water booths, and waiting halls was also conducted across various stations, backed by inspections from senior railway officials to ensure the highest standards of sanitation.
The Eastern Railway Bharat Scouts & Guides have been instrumental in turning this administrative task into a true people’s movement. By using posters, placards, and direct interaction, they have successfully bridged the gap between the railway administration and the traveling public. Their dedication has ensured that the message of hygiene reaches every corner of the railway network, from busy platforms to residential railway colonies.

“Cleanliness is not a one-day event but a continuous habit that defines our civic character,” said Shibram Majhi, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Eastern Railway. “Through this month-long campaign, we aren’t just cleaning platforms; we are cultivating a culture of care. When passengers see our young Scouts and Guides leading by example, it inspires a sense of ownership. We invite every traveler to be our partner in keeping Eastern Railway shining.”
