Vijay’s Trust Vote Triumph: 144 Ayes Seal the Deal Amid AIADMK Rebellion

Tamil Nadu’s new Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has cleared his first major test in office, securing a decisive victory in the Assembly’s trust vote with 144 votes in favor.

The motion passed comfortably despite pushback from 22 MLAs who voted against it, while five chose to abstain. Leading the charge against the government was rebel AIADMK leader S.P. Velumani, who rallied all dissenting MLAs to back the TVK (Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam) instead.

This win cements Vijay’s grip on power early in his tenure, but the divisions within AIADMK signal brewing political drama ahead.
