Assam’s Pride Brews Across the World on International Tea Day

Every year on May 21, the world celebrates International Tea Day, recognising the cultural, economic and social importance of tea across nations. In India, especially in the state of Assam, tea is more than just a beverage — it is an identity, a tradition and a way of life.
Known globally as the “Land of Tea,”

Assam holds a prestigious place in the international tea industry for its rich aroma and strong-flavoured tea varieties. The lush green tea gardens spread across the Brahmaputra Valley continue to support lakhs of workers and contribute significantly to India’s tea exports.

Among Assam’s leading tea-producing regions, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Sivasagar stand out as the three largest tea production districts, playing a vital role in maintaining Assam’s global reputation in the tea industry.

On this International Tea Day, tea lovers across the globe celebrate not only the refreshing drink but also the hard work, heritage and history associated with every cup of Assam tea.
