Business Delegation Meets Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Guwahati to Strengthen Bilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation

A business delegation led by Gaurav Medhi, Joint Secretary of the India Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (IBCCI), Guwahati Chapter, held a detailed and constructive meeting with His Excellency Zikrul Hasan Fahad, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Guwahati, to discuss new avenues for bilateral trade, investment, cultural exchange, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Assam as well as the wider North Eastern Region of India.

The delegation comprised:

During the meeting, both sides engaged in meaningful discussions on strengthening trade and business relations between Bangladesh and Assam, with particular emphasis on enhancing B2B engagement, promoting cross-border commerce, and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, startups, farmers, and MSMEs from both regions.

The delegation highlighted the immense potential of Assam and North East India in sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, food products, handicrafts, logistics, tourism, and manufacturing. Discussions also focused on facilitating greater interaction between businesses from Bangladesh and Assam through trade missions, buyer-seller meets, and collaborative business platforms.

A significant part of the discussion centered on cultural exchange and research into the historical, linguistic, and cultural similarities shared between the people of Bangladesh and Assam. Both sides acknowledged that stronger people-to-people connections can further deepen economic and social cooperation between the two neighboring regions.

The delegation also showcased products from their respective organizations and enterprises. As a gesture of goodwill, premium pineapples cultivated under the initiatives of ADGA EXIM LLP were presented to His Excellency. Assam’s rich agricultural potential, particularly in pineapple cultivation and value-added agro products, was highlighted during the interaction. Representatives from various organizations also presented samples and information about their products and initiatives.

The meeting concluded on a highly positive note, with all participants expressing their commitment to working together to promote trade, investment, entrepreneurship, agricultural cooperation, and cultural exchange between Bangladesh and North East India.

His Excellency Zikrul Hasan Fahad appreciated the initiatives undertaken by the delegation and assured his full support in facilitating greater engagement between businesses and stakeholders from Bangladesh and Assam. He reiterated the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and exploring mutually beneficial opportunities that contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of both regions.

The delegation described the meeting as highly fruitful and expressed optimism that it would pave the way for stronger partnerships, increased trade flows, and enhanced cooperation between Bangladesh and the North Eastern states of India in the years ahead.
