Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction works at the permanent campus of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University at Chabua in Dibrugarh district on Tuesday.
During his visit, the Governor inspected the various components of the project and directed the officials of the Public Works Department (Building) to expedite the construction work so that the students can avail themselves of the facilities at the earliest and the University too can expand and introduce new innovative courses and can in turn emerge as one of the leading sports university of the country. He also enquired about the provisions for establishing a dedicated Yoga centre on the university campus and underscored the importance of promoting holistic development through sports and wellness.
The Governor asked the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity to work in close coordination with the PWD and the district administration to ensure the timely completion of the project. He further directed the authorities concerned to submit monthly progress reports on the development of the project to Lok Bhavan.
Earlier, the Governor chaired a review meeting at the city campus of the university, during which Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hirendra Nath Sarma made a detailed presentation on the academic and infrastructural developments of the institution.
The Governor stressed the need to align the university’s academic programmes with the vision and objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He also emphasized the university’s role in promoting the concept of “Professor of Practice” in its curriculum to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical expertise.
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor informed the Governor that the university has introduced several innovative courses, including programmes on elephant taming and training as well as indigenous games, with a view to preserving traditional knowledge systems and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
