FINALLY, GOLD FOR INDIA! Neeru Dhanda Creates History at Asian Games 2026

India finally added another golden chapter to its Asian Games 2026 campaign as Neeru Dhanda clinched gold in the women’s individual trap shooting event, producing a historic performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Dhanda’s victory is particularly significant as she became the first Indian shooter to win an Asian Games gold medal in the women’s individual trap event. She also broke the continental record in the process, underlining the quality of her performance on the biggest Asian stage.

The 26-year-old shooter entered the competition in outstanding form. During qualification, Dhanda hit 48 of 50 targets, finishing joint-top and putting herself firmly in contention for the historic title.

Her Asian Games triumph comes just months after another landmark achievement. In July, Dhanda became the first Indian woman to win an individual ISSF World Cup gold in trap, triumphing in Lonato, Italy.

The Asian Games gold therefore continues what has been a remarkable 2026 season for the Indian shooter.

Dhanda had already contributed to India’s silver medal in the women’s trap team event, alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. Her individual gold now adds another major achievement to India’s shooting campaign in Nagoya.

A historic golden shot

Neeru Dhanda’s victory is more than another medal on India’s tally. It marks a new milestone for Indian women’s trap shooting and demonstrates the growing strength of India’s shooting contingent at the Asian Games.

With Dhanda holding her nerve when it mattered most, India has its fifth gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

From World Cup champion to Asian Games champion — Neeru Dhanda has struck gold at the perfect moment.
