Ankita Bhakat, Kumkum Anil Mohod and Kirti Sharma have created history at the Asian Games 2026, winning India’s first-ever gold medal in the women’s recurve team event.
In a tense final at Okazaki, the Indian trio defeated defending champions South Korea 5–3, ending the Korean team’s remarkable run of consecutive Asian Games gold medals in this event.
The contest remained closely fought through the opening two sets. India then produced a crucial 55-point third set to move ahead 4–2. In the fourth set, the Indian archers held their nerve, with a late scoring decision helping India secure the draw needed to seal the gold.
For Ankita, Kumkum and Kirti, the victory represents more than another medal—it marks a new chapter in Indian women’s recurve archery. The team had never previously won Asian Games gold in this event.
