Chief Minister Pema Khandu has conveyed best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan, the festival of Rakhi celebrating the love, respect and the eternal bond between brothers and sisters.
“Rakshabandhan is a pious festival when sisters pray for their brothers’ health and prosperity and tie rakhi around their wrists and brothers promise to take care of them throughout the lifetime,” Khandu said in a message this evening.
The festival is celebrated in the month of Shravan – generally in August. This year, it falls on August 19.
“In context of current times when we are witnessing crime and atrocities against women in the society, the significance of rakshabandhan and its universal message grows in leaps and bounds. This rakshabandhan, let’s live up to the expectations of our sisters and create a world where they are safe, happy and equal contributors in all spheres of life. Let’s not fail our sisters. Happy rakshabandhan!” Khandu added.
