ASSAM RIFLES FOILS CROSS BORDER SMUGGLING: SEIZES APPROX 8.2 TONS OF ILLEGAL ARECA NUTS (MYANMAR ORIGIN) WORTH APPROX RS 70 LAKH AT SANGAIKOT, CHURACHANDPUR

In a significant move aimed at eradicating cross border illegal smuggling, Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquaters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) captured a huge consignment of illegal smuggling of approx 8.2 Tons Areca Nuts worth Rs 70 Lakh (approx) at a mobile vehicle check post established at Sangaikot junction, Churachandpur District of Manipur on 19 December 2024.

On 19 December 2024 evening one input was received regarding, One goods carrier truck without registration number with illegal Areca Nuts (Myanmar origin) trying to cross Assam Rifles camp at Sangaikot. Immediately acting on specific input an operation was launched by Assam Rifles and a mobile vehicle check post at Sangaikot was established which successfully foiled the smuggling attempt by intercepting the vehicle. On checking, it was found out that the vehicle was loaded with approx 82 sacks at 100Kg each) of illegal Areca Nuts, hidden beneath the covers.

The vehicle was detained and has been handed over to Divisional Forest Officer, Churachandpur District for further investigations.
