At least 18 elephants were killed by lightning strikes in a forest in Assam.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at a hill in the Kundoli proposed reserve forest in the Kathiatoli range, according to Amit Sahay, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife).
“The place is very remote, and our team could only get there on Thursday afternoon. It was discovered that the carcasses were arranged in two groups. “Fourteen were discovered atop the hill, and four were discovered at the bottom,” he explained.
The preliminary investigation determined that the jumbos died as a result of electrocution triggered by lightning last night. Still, the exact cause will be revealed only after the post-mortem, which will be performed on Friday.
