Today Indian Christian day celebrates across all Christian denominations in India.
The northeastern states of India also celebrate Indian Christian day today.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga tweet, ” On this auspicious occasion of the #IndianChristianDay, I extend a very warm greetings to all my Christian brothers and sisters in North East India and the rest of the country. I extend my full support to the initiatives taken by the Coordination Committee. May God bless India.”
Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma tweet, ” On #IndianChristianDay, we celebrate the arrival of St. Thomas the Apostle, one of Lord Jesus’ disciples to India. Today, we also honour the 2000th anniversary of the earthly ministry of Lord Jesus, whose teachings & principles have helped shape & transform India & the world.”
The date, 3 July, was chosen “because it is traditionally observed as St Thomas Day, the day celebrating Saint Thomas the Apostle who came to India in 52 AD” and brought the message of Jesus. “It is historically accepted that Saint Thomas was martyred near Chennai in 72 AD.”
