Northeastern States of India today remember P.A.Sangma former Lok Sabha Speaker on his 74th birth anniversary.
Sangma was born on 1 September 1947 in Chapahati, a village in Garo Hills District of undivided Assam.

Late P.A Sangma was elected nine times to Lok Sabha from Tura in Meghalaya and became the first Speaker from the North East.
He was the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990.
The government of India awarded him Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, posthumously in 2017.
