INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATED IN NFR Women Empowerment to achieve Railways’ Development

International Women’s Day, 2022 has been celebrated in N. F. Railway with great fervor on 8th March, 2022. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is – ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’. There was participation of good numbers of women employees from NFR Headquarters. The General Manager, N. F. Railway Shri Anshul Gupta along with other senior officials was present during the occasion and outstanding women employees of different departments were awarded with certificate of appreciation in recognition of their performance and to inspire other women employees. N. F. Railways has a large number of women employees who are working shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. Women have also been deployed in field works such as track maintenance, rolling stock maintenance etc. which were earlier dominated by men. Celebrating these women and their achievements is a matter of immense pride for N. F. Railway.

While addressing the occasion, Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager of N. F. Railway appreciated all women employees who have been working dedicatedly in the field of sports, engineering maintenance, train operation, healthcare etc. N. F. Railway has also taken steps for achieving equal gender representation in various sports activities like cycling, archery, table tennis, weight lifting etc. where NFR women’s team is one of the best performing teams. Due emphasis has also been given on women’s participation in the various fields, the General Manager said.

Gender equality has a big role to play in socio-economic development of an organization and the nation. In N. F. Railway, all women gang in Coaching Depot, all women station, ‘Meri Saheli’ for safety of women passengers are perfect examples to showcase Railways’ dedication towards women empowerment.

It is noteworthy that sports-women of NFR have marked their dominance in the world stage and have made India proud. NFR sport persons like Popy Hazarika, N. Lalita, Nirupama Devi, Sanjita Chanu (Weightlifting), Irom Matouleibi Devi, M. Sonali Chanu (Cycling), Swapna Barman (Athletics) and Bhagyabati Kachari  (Boxing) among others have won many accolades for the country and they have become an inspiration and role model for girls across the region to take up the sports. 

In line with this year’s theme, N. F. Railway truly believes & practices gender equality for the nation’s sustainable future.
