There exists a well established system for selection of tableaux for participation in the Republic Day Parade. The tableaux proposals received from various States/UTs are evaluated in a series of meetings of the Expert Committee comprising eminent persons in the field of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography etc. These tableaux proposals are examined on the basis of theme, concept, design and their visual impact. Due to time allotted for tableaux in the overall duration of the parade, shortlisting of tableaux is always done by the Expert Committee.
All the proposals received from States and Union territories for participation of their tableau in the parade were evaluated by the Expert Committee and the selected States/UTs participated in the parade. The list of States/UTs which could not make it to the final list after the selection process is as follows:

For Republic Day Parade, 2022, the tableau proposals were received from 29 States/UTs including Kerala. The tableau proposal from Kerala was examined by the Expert Committee during the first five rounds of meetings. After the fifth round, the tableau could not make it into the final list of 12 tableaux from States/UTs shortlisted for participation.
