Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) Yard 2118 of the Indian Coast Guard

Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) Yard 2118 of the Indian Coast Guard, the 5th in the series of 05 FPVs built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) was ceremoniously launched on 02 May 22 at Titagarh, West Bengal.  Mrs Neela Pathania, the wife of Director General Virender Singh Pathania, PTM, TM, Director General, Indian Coast Guard performed the launching ritual and named the vessel as ‘Kamla Devi’. The launching was attended by senior dignitaries of Central and State Government.

     In line with ‘Make in India’ programme, the entire design of these ‘Fast Patrol Vessels’ has been developed in-house by the professionals of GRSE as per requirements specified by Indian Coast Guard. Speaking on the occasion, Director General Virender Singh Pathania, PTM, TM, Director General Indian Coast Guard congratulated the team of professionals and engineers of GRSE for preparing the ship for launch within a span of 09 months from keel laying which is ahead of schedule despite numerous challenges and constraints encountered on account of COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the symbiotic relationship between Indian Coast Guard and GRSE and added that GRSE has been one of the major stakeholders in indigenous construction of Coast Guard Ships.

    Since inception in 1960, M/s GRSE has developed an array of world class platforms and has been playing a key role in defence preparedness of India by producing the most modern warships through indigenisation for the country in line with ‘Make in India’ and aimed at Atamnirbhar Bharat. M/s GRSE, Kolkata has undertaken construction of 36 ship construction projects for Coast Guard and 125 refits of Coast Guard ships in a span of 38 years. 

     The ship is 50 metres long & 7.5 metres wide with a displacement of around 308 Tons and are designed for a maximum speed of 34 knots with an endurance of more than 1500 nautical miles. The ship is equipped with 03 nos Main Engines with advanced control systems, Water Jet units and an ‘Integrated Bridge System’ integrating all Communication and Navigation System. The ship will be fitted with 30 mm 2A42 gun as main armament, and will also have modern habitability features with fully air conditioned modular accommodation for 35 personnel.

   The ‘Fast Patrol Vessel’ is a medium range surface vessel capable for operations in Maritime Zones of India. This fuel efficient & powerful platform is designed to perform multipurpose operations e.g. patrolling, anti-smuggling, anti-poaching and Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. The Ship is likely to be inducted in Coast Guard Fleet for service to the nation by Dec 22/ Jan 23.
