A one day district level workshop on Challenges and Preparation of a Roadmap for Education in Sonitpur organised by District Administration in association with Tezpur University was held today at the Conference Hall of the Tezpur University Guest House.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Member of Parliament Pallab Lochan Das in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, Registrar, Tezpur University, Dr. Biren Das, Chief Executive Officer, Sonitpur Zilla Parishad, Karabi Saikia, ADCs Romy Baruah, Dyotiva Bora, Principals and Presidents of the governing bodies of various colleges of the district and other senior officials of the Sonitpur district administration.

In his welcome speech, Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra said the workshop has been organised with the view to identify the challenges and prospects of secondary education in the district and identify various ways and means to address such issues and chart a roadmap for the benefit of the students.
A brainchild of Member of Parliament, Pallab Lochan Das, the workshop was attended by Dr Tapan Kumar Kalita and Dr Abani Kumar Sharma of LGB Girls’ College, Dr Sukdev Adhikari and Prof H.C Gautam of LOKD College, Dhekiajuli, Dr Ranjan Kalita and Dr Charu Saharia Nath of Rangapara College, Dr. Ajit Hazarika and Dr Bipul Kumar Bora of THB College, Jamuguri, Dr. Jyoti Kamal Hazarika of Tezpur College, Dr. Palashmoni Saikia and Upen Sharma of Darrang College and Dr. Ajoy Kandulna and Dr Manmayuri Goswami of Govt College for Teacher Education.
In his keynote address, MP Pallab Lochan Das said the workshop has been organized with the aim to seek solutions to the various issues being faced by premier educational institutions in the district and come up with a set of guidelines that can be adopted by various educational institutes. He appealed to all the educationist and speakers present to submit a list of such issues and probable suggestions to these issues so that the same can be placed before higher authorities concerned. Citing that today’s youth need to be educated about both their rights and responsibilities, the Member of Parliament said they should be specifically involved in nation building activities and be made aware of various social issues.
Registrar, Tezpur University, Dr Biren Das was the moderator for the open session where Principal, Rangapara College, Dr Ranjan Kalita shared his experience of grassroot level of secondary schools and Dr. Charu Saharia Nath presented from the point of view of a President of the Governing Body of the College. Principal, Tezpur Govt HS School, Rinjumoni Neog spoke on the ground reality of the problems of secondary schools, while Prof Chandan Kumar Sharma of the Department of Sociology, Tezpur University deliberated on Exploring Solutions to the Challenges of the Education Sector in Sonitpur district. Professor Manmayuri Goswami of the College of Teachers’ Education, Tezpur spoke on the damage caused by Covid-19 and how to fill the learning gap of students and Professor Nil Ratan Roy, Head of the Department of Education, Tezpur University spoke on the Roadmap and Challenges in implementing NEP 2020 in colleges. Director, Teaching Learning Centre of Tezpur University Prof SS Sarkar spoke on Leadership for Academic Professionals as part of the open session.
