Metro Railway has observed its Foundation Day today i.e. on 24.10.2022. It was on this date in 1984 the first Metro of India ran from Esplanade to Bhowanipore Station (presently known as Netaji Bhavan).
To mark the occasion, a special programme was organised at Kalighat Metro Station.H.N. Jaiswal , Additional General Manager and Principal Chief Engineer inaugurated this programme by lighting a lamp. School children cut the birthday cake to mark the occasion.
In his speech Mr. Jaiswal has said that Metro Railway Kolkata is going to expand and reach different corners of city and adjoining areas very shortly. It will enable Metro to serve more commuters in the coming days.
Congratulating Kolkata Metro for completing 38 years of glorious journey. Sandip Roy, eminent film director in his speech said Metro is connected with his family. Fondly remembering the travelling experience in Metro of his father, the Oscar winning director Satyajit Roy, Shri Roy has said that Kolkata Metro caters to different segments of the society and helps them to travel easily. “ My wife and son travels in Kolkata Metro regularly”, he said.
Deb Shankar Halder, famous thespian praised Metro for ensuring smooth and comfortable journey of lakhs of commuters. “I have been regularly travelling in the Metro since 1986. I used to take Metro to go to my rehearsals during my formative years. I feel comfortable in the Metro”. Mr. Manfred Auster, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kolkata described the history of Berlin Metro in this programme.
A small cultural programme was also presented here.
