The six-day long platinum jubilee celebration of Government Secondary School, Pakkigaon under Soreng district concluded, on Sunday.
The celebratory event witnessed an amalgamation of festivities through cultural performances, traditional exhibitions and sports here at the school playground.
The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang graced the occasion as the chief guest and he was accompanied by the guest of honour.
The Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang encouraged the students to epitomize the achievements of the acclaimed school alumni for directions to greater career choices. He also acknowledged the contributions made by former students in the school’s development and growth. He advised the students not to perceive any displeasing notion towards differences between private and government run schools. He added that success is the result of the dedication and hard work they put in learning.
The Chief Minister also briefed about the new education policy which has been launched in the state as NIPUN Bharat, NIPUN Sikkim and urged for more dedication and perseverance from the department, teachers and students to make it a success. Similarly, he advised the probationary teachers to work diligently in their place of appointment. He also touched upon other relatable policies such as one year of maternity leave for new mothers along with one month for the fathers, an increment with the birth of two or more children one year of free child-care facilities for government women employees. He also announced the recently launched Forest department initiative of planting 100 trees for every newborn on being registered with the department.
