On March 06, 2023, troops of Border Out Post Sasni, 70 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier apprehended a smuggler along with 31 mobiles of different companies on the border. The estimated value of the seized mobiles is Rs. 8,10,000/-. The smuggler was trying to take these mobiles from India to Bangladesh.
Acting on specific intelligence, the jawans of Border Out Post Sasni laid a special ambush. The ambush party observed some smugglers moving towards the border with the goods. At the same time, the jawans asked the smugglers to stop, but seeing the jawans, the smugglers ran away taking advantage of the thick bushes. The jawans managed to nab a smuggler. When the jawans reached the spot and conducted a thorough search of the area, the said mobile phones were recovered from there. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Kalim Raja, from Malda district.
During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he had taken these mobiles from an unknown person in village Sasni and had to cross the border and hand them over to an unknown Bangladeshi smuggler.
In another incident, troops of Border Out Post M S Pur, 70 Battalion, seized 12 mobile phones from their area of responsibility, estimated to be worth Rs 1,63,000. Smugglers were also trying to take these mobiles from India to Bangladesh.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized goods were handed over to the concerned police stations for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of the 70 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border. He strongly stated that BSF troops are fully committed to stopping smuggling in their area of responsibility.
