The UD Foundation has announced the recipients of the ‘Golok Samman’ in memory of prominent translator, photographer, music connoisseur and social worker Golok Chandra Dutta.
He was a translator of Awahan age and later translated world famous literature for almost all the magazines including from Ramdhenu to Prantik-Bismoi. He was a prominent figure in the literary field of Assamese literature, especially in translation. His latest published book was translation of the Georgian epic ‘The Knight in the Panther’s Skin’. The book was published by the Assam Publications Board with the special initiative of the Ambassador of Georgia to India and the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma. Some of his travel photographs were published in Dr. Hemant Kumar Sharma’s travelogue ‘Kaveri Pare Pare’. Datta, who had a deep passion for classical music, played the Sitar himself and started learning the Khol after retiring from his job. He was deeply involved in the establishment and management of many public institutions at Nalbari like Sahitya Samaj, Lekhak Sangha, Cooperative Urban Bank, MNC Girls College etc.
The ‘Golok Sanman’ award is given to four individuals under the age of 50 who have made outstanding contributions to translation, literature, painting, social work and music, the areas were connected to his life.
The awardees for the Golok Samman 2022 are- translator and creative writer Dr Pranjit Bora, music researcher and journalist Manjit Rajkonwar, Binita Rajput of Tittabor who is promoting education in tea garden areas and Sourish Mitra of Kolkata who is an applied artist and animation filmmaker.
The awards ceremony will be held on April 23 at 4 pm at the Alumni Hall of Cotton University. The event will be attended by Dr. Dinesh Chandra Goswami, a prominent writer and Jayant Kumar Chakraborty, a prominent short story writer.
Prominent musicians Anand Kumar Dixit and Debashish Bhattacharya will perform musical composition just after the award ceremony. The event will be conducted by prominent drama personality Nayan Prasad.
