Assam Surgeon’s book on Robotic surgery to be distributed Among the Surgeons of the country

It was heartening news for the surgeons of the state when the Global Pharma company Glaxo Smith Kline decided to purchase and distribute 5500 copies of the book edited by the state surgeon among the endoscopic surgeons of the country. This is a CSR activity of the company. Incidentally the book is the 3rd edition of the “Recent Advances in Minimal Access Surgery” conceptualized and edited by eminent robotic surgeon of the state Prof. Subhash Khanna along with specialist editorial board members. The book has been published under the banner of Indian Association of Gastro Intestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES) in association with Swagat Academy of Medical Sciences and by one of the leading publishing house “Jaypee Publishers”.

The other editorial team members include surgeons Prof Pawanindralal of Moulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi , Mr. C Selvasekar of Christie Hospital, Manchester, Dr. Kanagavel Manickavasagam, Chennai, Dr Ramesh Agarwalla of Fortis Hospital, Kolkata and Dr Sunil Popat of Nidhi Hospital, Ahmedabad.

The book has forward given by Prof Barry Salky of Mount Senai Health system, New York the past president of International Federation of Societies of Endoscopic Surgeons (IFSES) and Dr. Davide Lomanto, of National University of Singapore, the secretary general of IFSES.

The book contains 12 chapters on various aspects of robotic surgery and these include chapters on basics of robotic surgery, the new robotic systems, training and machine learning and uses of robotic surgery in Gynaecology, urology, Head Neck, Bariatric and Trans oral Surgery. The concluding chapter gives a glimpse of how Biometrics and Artificial Intelligence is pushing the frontiers of Robotic Surgery.
