BSF troops in their area of responsibility along the Indo-Bangladesh border under South Bengal Frontier seized 643 bottles of Phensedyl and 08 packets of fish eggs which were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh in different incidents. The estimated value of the seized Phensedyl and fish eggs is Rs.1,81,766/-.
On May 13, 2023, troops of Border Out Post Pipli, Adhoc SB-lll Battalion while on border duty observed 7-8 smugglers on both sides of the Border fence. The jawans went near and challenged the smugglers and asked them to stop. Hearing the voice of the troops, the smugglers lost their sweat and they ran away from the spot on both sides of the border. During the intensive search of the area, the jawans seized 475 bottles of Phensedyl and 08 plastic bags from the spot.
In other incidents on the same day, troops of Border Outpost Nawada and Lodia, 70 Battalion and Bamanabad, 117 Battalion seized 168 bottles of Phensedyl from their area of responsibility.
The seized goods were handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.
A spokesman of BSF, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of the jawans and stated that the Border Security Force always maintains vigilance and adopts various operational measures to prevent smuggling along the border. He also added that BSF has an excellent team to provide information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities happening in the border area.
