A series of event were organized by Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (NE) in the states of West Bengal and Odisha on 05 Jun 23 to commemorate World Environment Day with the campaign “Lifestyle for Environment LiFE”.
The world environment day is celebrated to raise awareness amongst general population on environmental challenges and encourage actions for conservation of the environment. This year the theme of the event was ‘solutions to plastic pollution under campaign Beat Plastic Pollution’.
The Commander Coast Guard Region (NE), Inspector General Iqbal Singh Chauhan, TM, flagged off the drive on the theme “Go green, breathe clean” at Kolkata on 04 Jun 23. On 05 Jun 23, Coast Guard District Headquarters No 8, Haldia, organized clean up drive along Haldi river towards collection of plastic waste. Similar clean up drive was also organized by Coast Guard District Headquarters No -7 at Paradip sea beach, Paradip Port high school and Coast Guard Residential Area at Paradip. NCC cadets, local NGO and members of Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA) participated enthusiastically in the events, wherein tree plantations were also undertaken. Approx. 400 kgs of plastic waste was recovered and disposed off. The event culminated with pledge ‘say no to plastic’ by all participants.
The event witnessed great amount of interest amongst all participants. Senior Officers and personnel from local administration and various departments of the respective state and central Govt. agencies joined the noble cause towards conserving our environment especially from plastic waste.
