Kolkata’s very own Mohammedan Sporting is an Indian professional football club of I-League, the first tier of Indian football league system. Founded in 1891,it is one of the oldest and most popular football clubs in India, with a support base all over the country. After gaining Independence from the British rule, it became the first Indian club to win on foreign soil by lifting the Aga Khan Gold Cup in 1960.
Today Mohammedan Sporting played a friendly match with Indian Army Football team at Mohammedan Club ground just before the prestigious and glorious Durand Cup.
First half of the match Mohammedan was led by 2-0 but in second half Army Football team equalized the score.Attacking Midfielder Abhijit Sarkar and Central Midfielder Tonmoy Ghosh scored two goals on behalf of Mohammedan where as Manipuri Midfielder Lethaolen Khongsai and Uttarakhand Midfielder Shubham Rana hit the net.The matches ended 2-2..
Earlier Dipendu Biswas, the team manager of Mohammedan Sporting told us that” the Mohammedan is looking at Durand Cup very seriously this year as well. And we are moving forward with the goal of playing in the final.”
On the other side,the coaches of Army Football team,Anthony Ramesh and Sudhir Mishra were hopeful that they will give a good fight against the I- league and ISL teams in the upcoming Durand Cup as well as Kolkata league.
Both the Army Coaches played for Army Red and the services team earlier.
