In order to popularize science among school students, Tezpur University in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Government of Assam organized residential Science Teachers Training Programme for 1200 secondary level teachers of Government and Government Provincialised schools. While training for the first batch of teachers concluded on July 09, the second batch of teachers had undergone training from July 09 to 15th July 2023.
Speaking on the valedictory session as the Chief Guest on July 15, 2023, Paban Kumar Borthakur, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam acknowledged the pivotal role of teachers in shaping young minds and emphasized the need for continuous professional development to stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field of science and technology. “Science learning can be interesting and simple with enthusiastic teachers properly trained and oriented”, he said. He urged teachers to have an inquisitive mind.
Delivering the presidential address, Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University explained that teaching is a skill to impart knowledge to the students and teaching science subjects in school carry a special importance. “During this period, the students settle their minds towards a particular branch. Therefore, learning science is very important and clearing of basics in the school days is very essential”, Singh said. He also requested Borthakur to join academics so that his wide range of experience may be used in academics.
Dr. OM Prakash, Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Assam explained the objective and structure of the programme.
Science teachers from seven (07) districts viz. Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Morigaon, Udalguri and Darrang completed the training. Focus area for the training was, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Communicative English and Education Pedagogy.
