Durand Cup Trophy Flag in ceremony is all set to be conducted on 25th July at Brigade Parade Ground, Kolkata in presence of Aroop Biswas, Minister-in-Charge Department of Power, Housing, Youth Services & Sports, Government of West Bengal and Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC-IN-C, Army Commander, Eastern Command.
The event will witness an Adrenalin Fueled moment as Lieutenant Colonel Satyendra Verma (Retired) and Group Captain Kamal Singh Oberh (Retired) will carry out a daring Base Jump from Eastern India’s tallest building, The 42!
A symbol of India’s football history and culture, the Durand Cup is Asia’s oldest and the world’s third oldest football tournament, held mostly between top Indian football clubs across the country. Organized by the Indian Armed Forces, the Durand Cup has been the breeding ground for India’s best footballing talent, over the years.
This year the prestigious Durand Cup will have 24 teams including all 12 Indian Super League (ISL) teams. Army teams from Bangladesh and Nepal, will also be participating this year. Last occasion when the foreign teams participated in the tournament was 27 years ago. The Bodoland FC will be taking part for the first time in Durand Cup which is a rare feat for the local club of Kokrajhar.
