KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS, named after the successful Operation Vijay, is celebrated in India on 26th July every year.. On this date in 1999 India successfully took command of the high outposts in Jammu & Kashmir which had been lost to Pakistan.
The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days, ended on 26th July and resulted in loss of many lives on both sides.
Lieutenant Colonel Santi Bhusan Das (Retired) a 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War and Kargil war veteran said –
“Today’s programme was a joint effort by Akhil Bharatiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad WB chapter and support of local patriots and physical help of our serving personnel of Barrackpore Cantonment which help us to organize such a great event.We heartfully convey our gratitude to the Station Commander Brig. Manish Sharma.”
This day is dedicated to all the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives to protect India’s International Borders.In Kargil war India lost 527 brave souls.He added further.
“Today is 24th Anniversary of Kargil War.. Let us remember those brave hearts who were martyred in safeguarding the nation.I am proud to be a part of our Armed Forces”.Lieutenant Colonel Mita Mallik (Retired) expressed her gratitude.
