Workshop on Learning Herbarium Techniques by Voice of Environment

Voice of Environment (A Scientific and Environmental Research Organisation), Guwahati, Assam, has conducted two days of hands-on training on herbarium techniques. The theme of the program was titled “Learning Herbarium Techniques”. The session was a two-day hands-on training program.

The whole event was through online mode. The workshop is part of VoE’s ongoing environmental education and awareness mission initiative among the students, youths and community.

The workshop session began with an opening by Dr Anu Sharma. The presentation was made by Dr. Anu (Riparian Ecology and Himalayan Studies Division, VoE). Day one deliberations were mainly comprised of the elaboration part. A detailed discussion was made on the concept and significance of Herbarium techniques. All the steps, like identification, collection, drying, mounting, stitching, and deposition, were discussed in detail. Day one concluded with a question-answer session and detailed interaction. Day two was dedicated entirely to the practical part, where participants learned practically how to make a herbarium sheet.

Day two also concluded with a good amount of interaction and discussion. Er. Mcdonald Choudhury presented a formal vote of thanks on Day 1 and Day 2 by Environmentalist Moharana Choudhury, respectively.

Participants from different states and streams gave their comments after the session. The participants nationwide included Madhusmia Khatua from Bhubaneswer, Odisha is a working professional from Mitra S.K Pvt. Ltd found the session informative. Shivali Khajuria, a student of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government PG College for Women, Jammu. Md Shahbaz, Project Associate from Patna University. Suman Dhua is a student from Sidho Kanho Birsha University, West Bengal. Hasi Khatun is a student from Sidho Kanho Birsha University, West Bengal. Trisha Khajuria from PSPS Government College for Women, a Constituent College of Cluster University of Jammu (JK, UT). Esha Choudhary from Pandit Prem Nath Dogra College, Samba, J & K (UT) India. Chandrashekhar, an agriculture entrepreneur from Karnataka, found the session excellent. Anwesha Saha, a Sri Krishna Mission School student, Agartala, Tripura student, learnt about the Herbarium techniques. Hari Prasad, a Doon Business School alumina from Tamil Nadu, found the session an interactive learning experience.
