An unfortunate incident of firing by an Assam Rifles Jawan in an ASSAM RIFLES BATTALION deployed close to the Indo – Myanmar border in South Manipur took place on night of 23-24 January. One NCO opened fire on his colleagues injuring six of them (all injured are non-Manipuris); later the individual shot himself. The injured personnel were provided first aid and evacuated by helicopter to Military Hospital for further treatment and are reported to be stable.
ASSAM RIFLE BATTALIONS have mixed class composition from all sections and areas of India.There is no correlation of this incident with the ongoing conflict. Investigation into the incident has been ordered to ascertain the facts.
