ASSAM RIFLES DECLARES 23rd MARCH AS ASSAM RIFLES VETERAN’S DAY AND ORGANISES MEGA ASSAM RIFLES EX-SERVICEMEN RALLY AT HQ DGAR, LAITKOR

Assam Rifles has a total of 1,01,143 Ex-Servicemen country wide and 934 Veer Naris. These come under the umbrella of Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen Association which are located all over the country. Presently there exist 34 ARESA Centers all over India and three Pension Paying Offices in Nepal to oversee the welfare of Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen.

As a mark of respect to the selfless duty of the Ex-Servicemen, their sacrifices towards the Nation and to acknowledge the Ex-Servicemen and show solidarity towards Next of Kin of the Bravehearts, Assam Rifles has declared and is celebrating 23rd March as Assam Rifles Veteran’s Day.

The day was marked by number of activities to include Outreach programme by reaching out to the Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris & Widows in all the states of North East. The Outreach programme entailed establishment of Medical Camps, ECHS helpdesk, Banking facilities, grievance redressal cell and availability of representative of Civil administration to resolve local issues. Veer Naris, Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen and Widows were felicitated on the occasion A mega Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen Rally for Ex-Servicemen of Shillong, Meghalaya was also conducted under the aegis of Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles at Shillong, Meghalaya on 23rd Mar 24. The rally elicited participation by more than Two Hundred Ex-Servicemen from all the districts of the State including Veer Naris, Widows and their dependents. The Rally was organised under the theme “Serving Those Who Served Us”, to connect with the veterans, strengthen bonds with them and also acknowledge their contribution made for the country during the prime of their lives.

The occasion was graced by Lieutenant General P C Nair, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, Ph.D, DG Assam Rifles as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, the Director General Assam Rifles lauded the contribution of the veterans and the serving soldiers of Meghalaya who have contributed immensely to ensure the security and prosperity of the North–East and the country. As a small helping hand, the veterans were provided Eye Camp, Dental Camp and Medical stall for routine examination. An Ex-Servicemen Grievance Cell and Help Desk of SBI Bank was also established as a part of the Ex- Servicemen Rally to facilitate the veterans.

The event was followed by lunch for all participants. The Ex-Servicemen expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Director General Assam Rifles for organising the event.
