On May 7 2024, Vigilant Jawans of different Battalions under the South Bengal Frontier thwarted narcotics smuggling attempts and seized 188 Phensedyl bottles, 5.238 KG Ganja, 09 Fishpin Balls(fish spawn)and 360 Kg Piper chili(Chui Jhal) and arrested three smugglers when smugglers were trying to smuggle these goods from India to Bangladesh. The total Market value of seized goods is Rs. 2,54,159/-.
According to the information, On 06.05.2024 at about 0735 hrs OP cum farmer entry checking party while performing duty at BOP Bamnabad, 73 Battalion, BSF observed some suspicious items at the farmer’s possession near the entry point, then jawans immediately carried out frisking of farmers with the help of Narcotics sniffer Dog and recovered 32 Btls of Phensedyl from their lunch Tiffin box and in another incident, On the same day at about 0730 hrs OP cum farmer entry checking party while on checking duty at BOP Kakmarichar, 73 Battalion observed some suspicious items of a farmer at the entry point. Immediately carried out frisking of the farmer and recovered 03 pkts (238 gm) of Ganja from his possession.
The apprehended farmers are identified as 1.) Chhabi Sekh S/O Nazimuddin Sekh, Vill -New Bamnabad and Rejbul Sekh S/O Raimuddin Sekh, Vill- New Bamnabad (2.) Kamrul Sekh S/O- Najim Mondal, Vill- Charkakmari. All are from Dist- Murshidabad (WB)
During Interrogation Chhabi Sekh and Rejbul Sekh revealed that the seized consignment was handed over to them by an unknown person of Vill- New Bamnabad for dropping the consignment up to the paddy field ahead of entry point, in return they will get paid Rs 300 each for transportation, further from paddy field another person from New Bamnabad will carry forward for delivering the consignment to Bangladeshi smuggler namely Mehbuj Sekh, Vill- Chakpara, Distt- Rajshahi (BD). while Kamrul Sekh from Vill-Charkakmari revealed that Ganja was handed over to him by an unknown person of Vill-Charkakmari for handing over the consignment to a Bangladeshi smuggler namely Lalan Sekh, Vill-Mirganj, Distt- Rajshahi (Bangladesh) and took Rs 2000/- as a delivery charge.
Apart from this, in another incident on the same day, troops of border outposts Panchberia and Mustfapur, 107 Battalion & Border outpost Ramnagar, 08 Battalion seized 156 Phensedyl bottles and 05 KG Ganja.
Troops of Border outposts Ghojadanga and Panitar seized 09 Fishpin Balls(Fish Spawn) and 360 KG Piper Chili(Chui Jhal) from their respective area of responsibility.
The Apprehended smuggler and seized goods were handed over to the concerned department for further legal action.
A.K Arya, DIG, Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier said that BSF jawans are working day and night to stop crimes like smuggling on the India-Bangladesh border, and due to this people involved in such crimes are being arrested. Their plans are being thwarted again and again due to which smugglers are facing a lot of difficulties. The officer further said that any smuggler with evil intentions would not be spared.
