The Indian Army and Arunachal Pradesh State Government are jointly organising the Tawang Marathon at Tawang on 24th October,2024.
24 October has been designated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday.
“From now Tawang Marathon will be organised on 24th October every year.Arunaclal Govt and Indian Army are planning to pitch this historical event globally and Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh will sponsor it”, as said by the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh,Mr.Prema Khandu.
It will be the second time when a marathon event of this scale will be organised in this part of the country.
Tawang which is at an average elevation of 10000 feet above mean sea level will present the participants a unique chance to take part in one of the very few and possibly the most challenging high-altitude runs in the country.
The aim of this event is to establish Tawang on adventure sports and Marathon map to boost the tourism in the region.
Apart from large number of marathon enthusiasts from all over the country and the Indian Armed Forces are fielding strong teams for the event. The Tawang Marathon will include Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10 km and 5 km races.
The Sino-India War, also known as the Indo-China War, was an armed conflict between India and China that took place from 20th October to 21st November 1962.In the same October after six decades Indian Army and Arunachal Government jointly organised the Tawang Marathon in 2023.
On 1st October 2023 the large participation of Arunachalese and a jam packed Tawang Football Stadium had already shown the mirror to China that Arunachal is an Integral part of India.
