Manoj Soni, the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission, has resigned five years before the end of his term

Manoj Soni, the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), has resigned five years before the end of his term, citing personal reasons reported it news agency PTI.

Soni took oath as the chairman of the UPSC on on May 16, 2023 and his term was to end on May 15, 2029. He has tendered his resignation five years before the end of his tenure.

According to the report from sources  Soni’s resignation was not linked to the controversy regarding trainee Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Puja Khedkar, who allegedly forged identity papers and presented a disability certificate to get into the service.

Soni became a member of the commission on June 28, 2017 and took oath as the chairperson on May 16, 2023.

Soni is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who appointed him as the Vice-Chancellor of Vadodara’s MS University in 2005 when he was 40 years old, making him the youngest V-C in the country.
