Indian Shooting legend Abhinav Bindra participates in Paris Olympics torch relay

Abhinav Bindra India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist, proudly carried the Olympic torch during the Paris 2024 relay on Thursday.

Bindra, who won gold in the men’s 10m air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Earlier this week, Bindra was awarded the prestigious Olympic Order by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for his outstanding services to the Olympic Movement. He will be officially honored during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris on August 10, a day before the closing of the Olympics.

Bindra posted on X, “Carrying the Olympic flame yesterday in the Paris 2024 Torch Relay was an honor beyond words.  The spirit of the Games lives in each of us, and I am humbled to be part of this incredible journey. Let’s continue to inspire, dream, and achieve together!”

 

Bindra’s participation in the torch relay and his recent Olympic Order award highlight his exceptional contributions to the Olympic Movement through his competitive success and role in sports governance.

He served as Chair of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) from 2014 to 2020 and has been a member of the IOC Athlete Commission since 2018.
