Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) conducted Wreath Laying Ceremony at Sajik Tampak for Rifleman (General Duty) Gayle Gurung who gave his supreme sacrifice on 28 July 1973 during a fire fight with undergrounds (UGs) at Atoizu Asukhom village, Zunheboto (Nagaland) & sustained Gun Shot Wounds and succumbed to injuries, thereby laying down his life as supreme sacrifice for the Nation.

ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTS WREATH LAYING CEREMONY AT JOUPI ON 28 JULY 2024 TO COMMEMORATE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE OF ITS BRAVEHEART LANCE NAIK BAHADUR SINGH DHAMI
Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) carried out a poignant wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial, Joupi, Chandel District to honor their braveheart Lance Naik Bahadur Singh Dhami.
Lance Naik Bahadur Singh Dhami was Enrolled on October 14, 1978, in the 17 Assam Rifles after completing his Basic Military Training. His dedicated service in Sikkim, Nagaland, and Manipur was marked by unwavering commitment and sincerity.
On July 28, 1999, a unit convoy of four vehs, escorted by one JCO and 25 personnel, was sent to Tulihal. During the return journey, the convoy was ambushed by insurgents near Imphal College and Hydel Project High School on the Imphal-Bishanpur road, in the general area of Sangakpham (Kaweikathal).
During the fire fight Lance Naik Bahadur Singh Dhami got injured due to a gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries.
The Assam Rifles mourns the loss of Lance Naik Bahadur Singh Dhami, whose sacrifice and bravery will forever be remembered. His legacy of courage and dedication continues to inspire his comrades and the nation he served so faithfully.
ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISED VOLLEYBALL AND FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN CHANDEL DISTRICT
Assam Rifles organised Volleyball and Football tournament at Sajik Tampak Chandel District, Manipur from 12-23 July 2024 with theme of ‘Ek Bhaarat Shreshth Bhaarat’. A total of 54 players participated in the sports events and approximately 125 locals attended the event with great enthusiasm. The youths and local elders appreciated the efforts taken by Assam Rifles during the prize distribution ceremony for the winning teams of the tournament.
The efforts taken by the Assam Rifle for organising the above events and the assistance being provided for furthering the spirit of sports in the area was deeply appreciated by the locals.
