Assam Rifles, on 09 – 10 August 2024 organised Mass Tree Plantation Drive in association with the village authorities and localites at various locations in Manipur.
The events were organised as part of the environment friendly initiatives being undertaken by the Assam Rifles. The state of Manipur is blessed with abundant natural resources and has got good forest cover, however illegal trade of natural resources especially forest produce like timber has caused a large scale deforestation and environmental degradation.
As part of the series of tree plantation drives a total of 45 locals including 06 representatives from Shangshak village council had actively participated in the Mass Tree Plantation Drive organised by Assam Rifles at Shangshak village of Ukhrul District. The participants enthusiastically planted 1600 saplings along the Shangshak-Sorde road and in the Shangshak village.
Further, another mass plantation of saplings was organised by Assam Rifles alongwith the locals at Sehlon village of Chandel District on 09 August 2024, wherein 162 locals joined hands with the Assam Rifles personnel in planting 715 saplings of native tree species.
In another similar endeavour 200 saplings were planted by Assam Rifles personnel alongwith the villagers at Khudenthabi village of Tengnoupal District on 10 August 2024.
The tree plantation events at multiple locations started with warm reception for the attendees. They were emphasised about the need for protection of the natural resources especially the forest. Thereafter the areas in and around the location earmarked for tree plantation was cleaned by the participants alongwith the Assam Rifles personnel. A total of 2515 saplings were planted during the drive.
The locals including the village authorities expressed their appreciation towards Assam Rifles for enlightening them about the importance of environment protection and nature conservation. They also promised that they will strive hard to protect the inherent natural resources present in their localites and assured the Assam Rifles personnel that they will extend their wholehearted support to the Security Forces in future.
ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISES A FRIENDLY FOOTBAL MATCH AT NEW SAMTAL VILLAGE OF CHANDEL DISTRICT
Assam Rifles Battalion under the aegis HQ IGAR (South), organised a friendly football match as part of community engagement activities on 09 Aug 2024 at New Samtal Village of Chandel District between Assam Rifles personnel and local youths. The football match, played with fervor and sportsmanship, not only provided a platform for friendly competition but also served as a medium to strengthen the bonds among the villagers. Following the thrilling match and prize distribution, refreshment was arranged for all the villagers, fostering a sense of hospitality and shared joy.
Assam Rifles looks forward to organizing more such events that not only promote physical well-being but also strengthen the social fabric of the region.
