Based on specific intelligence, Assam Rifles established a mobile vehicle check post at Chehyang Village, Chandel District on 27 August 2024 and recovered 18 vehicles transporting an estimated 61.2 tons of areca nuts approximately worth Rs 5.29 Crore on the Indo Myanmar border. The operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to monitor and control illegal activities.
The vehicles, along with the individuals involved in the transport, were seized and subsequently handed over to Forest Department, Chakpikarong, Chandel District.
