119th Birth Anniversary
of Hockey Wizard, Major Dhyan Chand (triple Olympic gold medalist) was celebrated by Hockey Bengal in Kolkata yesterday.
The Annual Prize Distribution ceremony 2024 was also organised.
Every year Hockey Bengal honours with the award for Winners & Runners to the
clubs of various divisions of Calcutta Hockey League and to the Districts of Westv Bengal for participation in the State Hockey Championship.
They also felicitated Coaches, Umpires, players and officials for their outstanding contribution for the development of Hockey in West Bengal.
Mr.Sujit Bose, Minister-in-Charge, Fire & Emergency Service, Govt. of West Bengal, Former Olympians and Indian Hockey Captains Gurbux Singh and Dr. Vece Paes, along with many other dignitaries , Players ,officials and hockey lovers were present at this prestigious annual award ceremony.
Olympian Joginder Singh Award 2024 was received by Sandhya Chakraborty for her contribution as a Coach.
Md. Salahuddin Pervez for his contribution as National Umpire achieved Olympian Jaswant Singh Rajput Award.
Indian Army Major Dhyan Chand is widely regarded by many as the greatest field hockey player in world history. He was known for his extraordinary ball control and goal-scoring feats, in addition to earning three Olympic gold medals, in 1928, 1932 and 1936, during an era where India dominated field hockey. His influence extended beyond these victories, as India won the field hockey event in seven out of eight Olympics from 1928 to 1964.
