ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTS WREATH LAYING CEREMONY TO HONOUR BRAVEHEARTS

Assam Rifles conducted a “Wreath Laying Ceremony” at Tengnoupal to pay tribute to 07 brave hearts of the unit who sacrificed their life in a fire fight during “Op Hifazat” at Manipur on 06 September 1992.

On 06 September 1992, during changeover in company locations, the convoy came under fire from a group of insurgents along with an IED blast. Havildar Patigan Dhobi bravely jumped from the convoy and started firing upon the insurgents, sustaining injuries in his right hand by splinters from the IED blast. Irrespective of his personal safety, the Havildar, by his swift & courageous actions, engaged the militants with accurate burst fire of LMG. During the fire fighting Havildar Patigan Dhobi and 06 other ranks namely L K K B Khatri, Rifleman R K Tripathi, Rifleman Lal Dev Yadav, Rifleman Amarjeet Sharma, Rifleman Khem Singh and Rifleman Ganesh Gurung sustained wounds and succumbed to their injuries, thereby laying down their lives in supreme sacrifice for the Nation.

Assam Rifles honoured the brave hearts by paying homage at the War Memorial for their supreme sacrifice for the cause of the Nation disregarding personal safety.

Additionaly at Sehlon Chandel District , Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony in honour of Late Naib Subedar/GD Babudhan Gurung, who made supreme sacrifice during an intense counter insurgency operations in Mizoram on 06 September 1966.

On 05 Sep 2024, an input was received from the Intelligence Department in General Area Champhai, it was learnt that the Mizo National Front militants were causing attrition to the Champhal COB. Battalion Headquarters 1″ Assam Rifles launched a patrol party from Champhai COB towards General Area Champhai, Mizoram under the leadership of Naib Subedar/GD Babudhan Gurung, who was also the Post Comander of Champhai COB. Once this patrol party reached the location where suspicious activities of the militants were seen and subsequently tried to cordon the location and apprehend, the militant who were already lying in ambush there started indiscriminate firing on the patrol party. Naib Subedar/GD Babudhar Gurung, bravely encountered the insurgents disregarding personal safety. The brave leader was severely injured after facing several bullets and made the supreme sacrifice on the line of duty. For his bravery and sacrifice, Naib Subedar/GD Babudhar Gurung was awarded Surya Chakra (Posthumous).

The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying by Officiating Commandant of the unit followed by narration of the story of the braveheart to all ranks to infuse a sense of pride and honour among the troops.

A total of 03 Officers, 11 Junior Commissioned Officers and 93 Other Ranks paid tribute by laying wreaths & honouring with Guard of Honour.

ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISED TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATIONS AT ASSAM RIFLES CENTRE OF EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE (ARCEE) SOMSAI, UKHRUL DISTRICT, MANIPUR

As part of the Teachers day celebrations being conducted all over the nation, Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) organised Teacher’s Day celebration at Assam Rifles Centre of Educational Excellence (ARCEE), Somsai, Ukhrul on 05th September 2024.

ARCEE is a residential coaching facility offering coaching for girl students of all communities, from different districts of Manipur, for the prestigious National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for a career in the field of Medicine.

The event at ARCEE began with a welcome address by the Project Coordinator, followed by captivating cultural and traditional dance performances by the students. A total of 35 students and 4 teachers participated in the event, organized by Assam Rifles as part of the Teachers’ Day celebrations.

The students and teachers at ARCEE expressed their deep gratitude to Assam Rifles for providing an top notch platform to learn and grow, opening up a multitude of opportunities that promise a bright and hopeful future. They pledged to work hard and make both their teachers and parents proud of their achievements.

ASSAM RIFLES PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO LANDSLIDE VICTIMS IN UKHRUL

Assam Rifles provides assistance to civilians affected by heavy rains in Ukhrul town,, Manipur

On 12 Aug 2024, following Heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, had resulted in collapse of a newly constructed wall on a house on 12 August 2024, Ukhrul, injuring three people and tragically claiming the life of a 2-year-old boy. The bereaved, reached out to Assam Rifles, requesting assistance for the reconstruction of their damaged home.

In response, Assam Rifles provided CGI sheets, items like mattresses and electrical fittings etc to support the family.

The family expressed profound gratitude to Assam Rifles. The local authorities appreciated the efforts undertaken by the Assam Rifles and assured them of cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
