Supreme Court granted bail Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal

The Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail by the Supreme Court after nearly six months in custody related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.

His arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) occurred on June 26, 2024, while he was already in custody for a separate money laundering case linked to the same policy.

The Supreme Court’s decision came after a hearing where it was determined that while Kejriwal’s arrest was legal, the trial was unlikely to conclude soon. The court imposed conditions for his bail, including a bond of ₹10 lakhs and restrictions on public comments regarding the case. This ruling follows a previous dismissal of his bail plea by the Delhi High Court, which upheld the legality of his arrest.

Kejriwal’s case has drawn significant attention, especially with upcoming state elections, and he is now expected to be released from jail shortly.

The Supreme Court has imposed several conditions on Arvind Kejriwal’s bail in the Delhi liquor policy case:

(a) Bail Bond: He must provide a bail bond of ₹10 lakhs.

(b) Public Comments: Kejriwal is prohibited from making any public comments regarding the merits of the case.

(C) Trial Attendance: He must be present for all hearings before the trial court unless exempted.

(d) Access Restrictions: He is not allowed to enter the Chief Minister’s office or the Delhi secretariat while out on bail.

(e) Official Duties: Kejriwal cannot sign any official files without clearance from Lieutenant Governor.

Meanwhile Aam Admin Party welcome Delhi CM Arvind bail. Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal says, “BJP’s plans have been washed away. They want to jail the Opposition leaders and stay in power. Their only goal is this”

AAP leader Gopal Rai says,” they will go to the jail at 4 pm, receive Arvind Kejriwal there and then go to the CM’s house”. News agency ANI reported it.
