On the first day of the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India ended the day at 339/6. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that surprised many as it marked the first time in five years that a team chose to field first in India.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the standout performer for India, scoring a century, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed significantly with an impressive half-century.
