INDIAN COAST GUARD CONDUCTS MARITIME SEARCH AND RESCUE WORKSHOP AND SEA EXERCISE OFF PARADIP

The Coast Guard District Headquarters, No. 7 Odisha, led by Deputy Inspector General Sanjay Negi, inaugurated a Regional Level Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR) Workshop and Sea Exercise on October 7-8, 2024. This initiative brought together local SAR stakeholders and resource agencies from Odisha, including OSDMA, District Administration Officials, Ports, Customs, Indian Navy, Marine Police, Odisha Police, CISF, Department of Fisheries, Forest Department, and District Medical Department.

As the National Maritime SAR service provider, the Indian Coast Guard organized this workshop under the aegis of the NMSAR board, focusing on the professional nuances of SAR protocols, mechanisms, procedures, and SOP validation. The workshop featured a table-top exercise that simulated various SAR scenarios, fostering collaborative responsibilities among participating agencies.

During the sea exercise off Paradip, the Indian Coast Guard, as the lead agency, demonstrated a near real-time Mass Rescue Operation, including Medical Triage and rescue techniques aimed at ensuring safety at sea. This exercise covered vast oceanic areas, enhancing coordination between Aeronautical and Maritime SAR operations.
