Jammu and Kashmir: Omar Abdullah took the oath as Chief Minister

Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on October 16, 2024, marking a significant political milestone following the recent assembly elections.

The oath ceremony took place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar, administered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

The five ministers who took oath are Sakina Itoo, Javeed Rana, Surinder Choudhary, Javed Dar, Satish Sharma including Omar Abdullah.Congress is not part of Jammu Kashmir Government.

Congress won’t join Omar Abdullah government in J&K, offer outside support to National Conference. Congress had contested 32 seats, won 6. Sources claim Congress asked for 2 ministerial births but was offered 1.

Abdullah’s National Conference won 42 out of 90 seats, forming a coalition without Congress representation. He emphasized cooperation with the Union government and expressed hopes for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
