Metro Railway, Kolkata has been celebrating the completion of 40 glorious years of its service to the Nation from 18th to 24th October, 2024. As part of this celebration, Metro Railway organised a Heritage Walk from Rabindra Sadan to Esplanade on October 19, 2024.
P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway flagged off this Heritage Walk in presence of P. Sreelatha, President of Metro Railway Women Welfare Organisation (MRWWO) , Atulya Sinha, CAO , Rail Wheel Plant, Bela, Sanjay Mukherjee, Ex-Chief Financial Commissioner Railway Board and Samar Jha, Ex-Chief Financial Commissioner Railway Board.
General Manager, senior officers of Metro Railway, Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway , members of MRWWO took part in this Heritage Walk to revisit the glorious past of Metro Railway and cherish its rich heritage. Members of Rail Enthusiast Society also took part in this Heritage Walk which continued for almost two hours and culminated at New Esplanade Metro station. The entire walkway from Rabindra Sadan to Esplanade was beautifully branded with gates, drop down banners depicting the evolution and progress of Metro Railway and hoardings. Reddy also inaugurated a Heritage Gallery cum Exhibition at New Esplanade Metro station by lighting a traditional lamp. In his address, Reddy expressed his hope that this exhibition will throw light on some unknown fascinating facts of Metro Railway, Kolkata and he also urged all to visit this exhibition. Senior Railway officials and members of MRWWO were present in this inaugural programme. In this exhibition 86 rare photographs of Metro are on display. A philately exhibition is also an added attraction of this Heritage Gallery. This Gallery will remain open till October 24, 2024.
After the exhibition a Quiz Contest on Metro Railway, Kolkata was also held. In this quiz, questions from Metro Railway’s history and heritage were asked and each question was correctly answered by the audience.
