NorthEast United FC are determined to return to winning ways when they face Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL 2024-25) at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here on Saturday.
The Highlanders are coming into the fixture from an agonising 2-3 home defeat against Chennaiyin FC in match week 5. Meanwhile, the visitors beat Hyderabad FC 2-1 in their previous game. However, the Highlanders are unbeaten against the Red Miners in their last two encounters and are seeking to extend their unbeaten streak.
Juan Pedro Benali’s men are in action after a gap of 10 days and the coach expressed that he doesn’t need to do anything special to motivate his troops. “They don’t need motivation. They need to understand when they want to, they play great games and they suffer when they sleep… The most important thing is they must keep going, doing what they do best,” Juan Pedro Benali said in a pre-match press conference.
Tondonba Singh, one of the team’s captains, echoed the coach’s sentiments. “I analyze my performance after every match, regardless of the outcome. I focus on my strengths and weaknesses to improve. The team is fully focused on the challenge ahead,” he stated.
Moroccan forward Alaaeddine Ajaraie has been a standout performer for NorthEast United, scoring five goals in the first five matches. A goal against Jamshedpur would tie him with Elano Blumer for the record of scoring in six consecutive opening games.
As the Highlanders aim to secure their second win of the season, they will be relying on their attacking prowess and defensive solidity to overcome Jamshedpur FC.
